I first heard about Earth Hour through a friend on facebook, and my favourite newspaper, and the Toronto Star, is doing well to keep it in my face. I finally signed up on the official Earth Hour website, and you should too.
If you don’t know what Earth Hour is, SHAME ON YOU! And that is one of the rare instances where you will see me typing in ‘all caps’ on this blog. On March 29, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. people around the world are turning off their lights. We are doing so to participate in a movement that will hopefully make the world take notice just how much energy we can save if we all pull together. It all began…
On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. If the greenhouse reduction achieved in the Sydney CBD during Earth Hour was sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the road for a year.
I was extremely excited when I first saw that something like this was happening, and was even more excited after I signed up and realised just how many people had signed up to participate. This kind of thing restores my faith in humanity, so I’m extremely honoured to be able to participate. I was a little worried that I might be working and I just wasn’t sure I would be able to convince them to turn all the lights off in the hotel, bar & restaurant. You know?
Anyway, you can’t say this doesn’t affect you because it does! Whether you want to or not! So please sign up with me. But more importantly on March 29th, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m YOUR time - turn off your lights!

Monique - lol me too! Though I’m also going to be turning off my TV during this hour. And I will also try to stop watching TV while I’m on the computer - unless there is actually a show I really, really want to watch. I find I have it on just for the sake of having it on and it’s just really wasteful.
