So I finally booked my flights for my holiday to Dublin in May. Yay! We have tickets to see The Boss in concert. Oh yes! It was a huge ‘value-added’ bonus for my trip over there. I found a new website for cheap flights that allows you to choose your seats online for an extra $22 each. It was a pretty sweet deal. But I got so tied up in picking flights that would allow me to sit by the starboard side window seat that I completely forgot to make sure I picked a flight that got me there before the concert.
As soon as I realised it, I went online and tried to contact someone from the company to help me change the departing flight. Unfortunately, I didn’t read the part about how the ‘instant fare’ (the cheaper fare) is non-refundable, non-changeable, and just plain not good news for me. I had two concert dates to choose from: The Boss near the end of May, and Prince in the middle of June. Now I don’t get to see either with him.
I’m so upset about the whole thing… We were both really looking forward to going to either one of those concerts together. He bought tickets to both concerts specifically with me in mind… and I went and did something stupid. So stupid that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think I didn’t care about his thoughtful actions. So it hurts. My stupidity hurts. A lot. I just feel like I let him down.
I know I’m being dramatic, but I’ve actually had a few days to mull over this… and I still feel pretty strongly about it. I care about him a great deal and I would never want him to think that I don’t care about things he does for me. He is one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever known, and I am just careless. It’ll take me a while to get over this… and I’m sure it’ll take him a while to get over it too. I just wish there were some way I could make it up to him. Or better yet, I wish there were someway I could still go see The Boss in concert with him! ARGH!

OH NO!!!!
*hugz*
It’s good that you posted your feelings up here. That way, if he gets to read it, he knows your intentions are well. You just got over excited that’s all.

Aww, this sucks. Try not to beat yourself up too much. It was a mistake, one anyone could make. He knows you care. Hopefully someday soon you guys will get to laugh about it.

I know exactly how you feel too. A while ago I booked some important tickets and got the dates wrong… the company wouldn’t even slightly bend to help me correct my error.

Sorry Reggy, that sucks. Airlines are completely unforgiving when you make a mistake- oh but if they mess up it’s “Too bad, sorry for the inconvenience, NEXT!” I wish we had some recourse, but it’s not like you can drive instead.

So you’re an impulsive buyer which is why you’re already in dept. I believe there are exercises you can do to change your behavior.

Ate Mae - thanks… yeah these posts feed to my facebook notes too so I’m sure he has read it but I also emailed him and apologised already before I even wrote this post. He says it’s not the end of the world, it’s just a pity. And he’s right, but I still feel really bad.
Jillian - With him… I’m sure we will be. I won’t be hearing the end of it for a while… lol
Monique - thanks hun. *hugs* right back at ya. It sucks too because by the sounds of it… if I had gone for the standard fare (which was only really like $40 more expensive than the instant fare) I would’ve been able to make changes to my flights. D’oh!
Pit - lol so true! If they make a mistake, we’re supposed to be all accommodating but when we make a mistake they’ll leave us to burn in hell for all they care!
Michael - hehe is it still impulsive buying when I’ve been planning the trip since before I even came back home? I agree with him it was careless to forget to make sure the flight got me there on the right date, but I don’t know if it was impulsive. Also, I had the cash saved up for the flight before I booked the ticket so I don’t see how my debt ties into this post….? I think I’m doing well to change my spending behaviour…

I once booked a flight to the wrong city. Of course there was no refund and I had to buy another ticket. We all have our moments. Please forgive yourself and one day you will laugh about this! Burn your favorite Boss and Prince singles to disc and take it with you on a picnic with your sweetie.

Chris - I know eh? I’m slowly getting over it but I still feel pretty stupid… but more so in a funny way now. Kinda. hehe
