My immediate reaction: I wished I was Tony Stark. The idea of being able to create machines that could think for themselves to help yet be smart enough not to need them is just brilliant. Robert Downey Jr. did an amazing job at portraying Tony Stark… I have to admit there were times I wanted to hate him (not sure whether it was Tony or Robert I wanted to hate) but as the movie kept on going it was evident there was no need to hate him. I had heard a lot of people say that they didn’t want to see this movie because they weren’t a fan of Robert Downey Jr., and while I coudn’t remember what else he had been in I decided to go in with an open mind. I’m glad I did. I was also jealous of his house in this movie… I won’t say much right now because there are probably a lot of people who haven’t seen it yet but trust me, when you see this house (and keeping in mind how geeky I am), you will see why I loved it so much. I’ll give you a hint: it’s not the size of the house!
I felt like it dragged on a little in the third of the movie, but as my friends said they were just giving us back story… but I think they could’ve done it without boring me. I didn’t know that Jon Favreau was was involved, I thought he was in it though because of this cover of Geek Magazine that I saw briefly while surfing around one day.
I’ve always liked him and I wondered why they didn’t pick him to be Iron Man after the character he played on Friends. Did he not fit the bill of a rich, crazy, techy genius? Not that I’m complaining. I woud like to complain about Gwyneth Paltrow’s involvement in the movie because I generally don’t like her. Mostly because of her relationship with Brad Pitt when I was at my most jealous stage in my crush on him. But she was quite good as Pepper Potts, and she looks so much better with red (or strawberry blonde) hair (please correct me if I’m wrong on the colour).
Being a huge Marvel fan, I loved this movie and I can’t wait to see the next one. I felt like there was just enough ‘reality’ (it’s in quotes because what’s reality anyway) to keep me interested, but plenty of fantasy that fits in with being a comic book movie. Although for the part that dragged on I am taking of half a star giving this baby a grand total of 4.5 stars. If you haven’t seen it yet, do go… it’s worth watching it in the Theatres (even if I did go on half-price Tuesday).
From Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures comes Iron Man, an action-packed take on the tale of wealthy philanthropist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who develops an invulnerable robotic suit to fight the throes of evil. In addition to being filthy rich, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark is also a genius inventor. When Stark is kidnapped and forced to build a diabolical weapon, he instead uses his intelligence and ingenuity to construct an indestructible suit of armor and escape his captors. Once free, Stark discovers a deadly conspiracy that could destabilize the entire globe, and dons his powerful new suit on a mission to stop the villains and save the world. Gwyneth Paltrow co-stars as his secretary, Virginia “Pepper” Potts, while Terrence Howard fills the role of Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes, one of Stark’s colleagues, whose military background leads him to help in the formation of the suit. Jon Favreau directs, with Marvel movie veterans Avi Arad and Kevin Feige producing.

Horaayy..there are 12 comment(s) for me so far ;)
I loved the movie. Robert Downey Jr. nailed the part.
Oh, and what’s the deal with the huge black box covering half of your page? Is it just my browser?

Hi Haley, I have NO idea what that is… I have no time to fiddle either. Not to mention it doesn’t show up every time!Ok so I finally figured out what it was. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. Turns out my Ajaxed Wordpress plug-in was causing some problems. Oh well.
p.s. Haley - thanks for mentioning it hehehe. A few people had told me about it, and at first I thought it was just on Safari but then it started showing up on firefox at home. re: Movie, did you go see it opening night?
I thought this was way too idiotic when I saw the trailer…

The reviews for this movie have been favourable. I wish I have the time to go see it. Oh well, just have to wait for the DVD, I guess.
Then there’s Indy 4 coming up…. argh.

I gave it a 5/5 on my review. I wish I’d seen it on the IMAX. We dont have one on GUAM! Did you stay after the credits for the surprise?
Love the movie as well though Wife wasn’t too enthusiastic. It’s really one of those babes, bang and bomb show, isn’t it? My favorite scene is the one when Iron Man’s armour was flexing itself for ‘initialization’. That totally blew me away.
We stayed till the credits were done. But felt abit let down by the very short teaser, which of course led to the sequel.
@Rudy,
Indy’s trailer was abit painful to watch… I mean, watching Ford in the show is iis like watching my grandfather trying to fend for himself, if you know what I mean…

Michael - It is the farthest thing from Idiotic, believe me.
Rudy - Get out of your computer chair and get into a theatre seat! It’ll be worth seeing this in the theatre trust me! And Indy 4 too! (I will be honest and tell you that I thought you were talking about the Molson Indy at first =P)
Chris - Hehe I know you did… but I honestly did feel it dragged in the beginning… I was actually wondering when it was going to be over at one point! Yeah, I stayed till the end… but was also disappointed at how short the teaser was!
CK - Not all women are keen on comic books… just geeks like me. There were many scenes that blew me away… and many scenes that had be pissing my pants from laughter.
And I know your last bit of the comment was to Rudy, but I think the Indy trailer looked awesome… though I have to admit I’m looking forward to watching Shia LaBeouf, not Harrison Ford…
I LOVED the movie. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I caught the film a few days ago with a few pals and like last year’s Transformers, I was pleasantly surprised. I like how they took some creative liberties with the story (in the comics, Tony Stark was handicapped) and the special effects were surprisingly believable. I’m already anticipating the sequel if for no reason other than the fact that Terence Howard… nevermind, I don’t want to ruin it for anyone.
Speaking secrets, please tell me you stayed until the end of the credits?

Caught Iron Man here in Korea on IMAX. I was both stoked, and very, very pleased.
By the way, take a look at the Robert Downey Jr.’s latest role in TROPIC THUNDER. it appears to be absolute fucking GOLD.

Yes indeed, this was definitely a surprisingly good movie. I had heard mixed reviews and since I don’t have a TV and don’t watch trailers online, I never saw the previews. Downey did a splendid job as Stark. Though I do have disagree with you on Paltrow’s hair color. I didn’t seem to fit her skin tone at all and it didn’t look good on her. I really wish they had given her character some more depth though.

Monique - Me too! Can’t wait for the next one!
TOPolk - Yes, definitely anticipating the sequel… I forgot that he was handicapped!! I kind of wish they’d kept that but I still like it the way they did it in the Movie. And yes, I definitely stayed for the credits but I was disappointed by how short it was.
Jason - Kind of wish I’d have seen it in IMAX. Think the only movie I’ve seen in IMAX was some animated movie… hehe. Tropic Thunder huh? Will have to check it out for sure!
Maria - re: Paltrow, I guess I always used to hate her anwyay, and because she was always blond I associated it with what I hated. hehe Not that I hate her any less, but she looked different anyway.
