Photos above are from my July 4th 2008 weekend trip to NYC.

Having a terrible memory is part of the reason why I need to keep a journal. The last time I made this trip, I also took this long ass bus journey but for some reason I have no recollection of the events during the trip let alone the bus ride down! I mean, sure, it was 7 years ago but shouldn’t I remember something?!

I have photographs that prove I was here and what we did… but no other memory of the time. Of course, I know why I have these lapses in memory but it’s still seems strange to me. It used to be just childhood memories that I had no recollection of. People would tell me stories of things I did when I was little and I’d listen to them as if I was hearing them for the first time.

Does anyone else suffer from this?

YES! That’s one of the reasons I like to keep a journal style blog. It’s a repository for my memories, and the act of writing something down helps solidify the memory.

Haley - yes definitely! I always notice that until I write something down, I won’t remember it. And after I write it down, even if I don’t have the piece of paper with me… I’ll remember! Weird huh?

I remember some events that happened over 25 years ago… like the time I almost caused a fire when I was 5, and seeing a little girl on the playground touching the balls of her infant brother while I was on the way to my uncle’s house.

Chris - Just make another trip to the mainland! You have so much more to see… like Toronto!! I upgraded to WP 2.6 and they don’t have support for it yet so I the plugin won’t activate :( BOOOurns!

Michael - lol maybe I should be glad I don’t remember most things. I’m sure there are memories similar to yours that I’m better off not remembering!

Sadly, yes. Sometimes I am like huh? What?

It happens to me the most when it’s things like birthdays and anniversaries. I can’t remember the details of each one to save my soul.

I know exactly what you mean, that’s kind of why I started my blog. Just so in a year or so I can read it and think “Oh gosh, did I really do that?”

I’ve upgraded the day it was released. The plugin works fine on my site.

I need to take another trip to the mainland. I dont know if I’ll fly east coast again though. 26 straight hours of flying drove me nuts!

Monique - I would not remember half the birthdays I do now if it weren’t for facebook! lol Do photographs help you at least?

Jazz - lol so glad I’m not the only one. I’ve read entries from my diary from when I was 11 and said that so many times!

Chris - So weird, not sure why it’s not working for me. They’ve just released the update for 2.6 so I’m going to give it a try now.

26 hours of flying?!?!? GAAAH!!

I thought it was just me- I’m lucky if I remember what I did last month, much less year ago. Childhood? I was a kid once I think. Something about an firetruck, an orphanage and the Clydesdales…

lol Pit, I think if you ever stop posting the funnies and decided to post about your life and memories instead I would still read your blog everyday… that sounds interesting! (What are Clydesdales?)
