post Category: All Things Geek post postJuly 16, 2008

I joined entrecard 6 months ago and it has been one of the best things I could have ever done for my blog. Not that I have ever done this (blogging) for the recognition, but it’s always nice to get recognition. Now with the recent partnership between Entrecard and SezWho, the internet wizards that be have made it so that there is more of an incentive to leave a comment.

This paragraph is for those of you who don’t already know what entrecard is all about. The basic idea of entrecard is, you join, you make a custom entrecard (business card 2.0), then you start browsing other people’s blogs. Once you’re on a blog, you can drop your card on their widget (much like dropping a card into a bowl to win a free lunch). For each card you drop, you get a credit (the currency of the entrecard community) and for every card dropped on your widget you also get a credit. You also get credits when people advertise on your widget, but it’s a percentage of the amount the advertiser pays.

Recently, they’ve been trying to give all of us in the entrecard community more ‘bang for our buck’ as it were. I believe the first step to be the partnership with Digg, which I haven’t fully implemented on this blog because I have yet to find a way to do so without cluttering up the place. The more recent partnership with SezWho is something I’m a little more excited to implement.

Some of you may remember that I tried to use CoComment a little while ago, only to remove it not too long after. The idea behind CoComment was a great one as it allowed me to keep track of the comments I leave on various different blogs. But there was something missing, I wasn’t quite sure what it was, but either way it wasn’t satisfactory so I removed it. But SezWho not only allows you to follow your comments across the internets but it allows people to give you feedback on your feedback. And to top it all off, entrecard is rewarding appropriate use of this tool with credits!

What I love about all is, is the fact that I don’t even have to change my blog-hopping habits to avail of the advantages. I can pretty much earn credits right away! I do have to one change to make: I have to install a plugin but I’m having trouble with this at the moment. However, the SezWho team have been working around the clock trying to debug their system so I have every faith that they’ll be able to help me sooner or later with this problem.

Have you jumped on the SezWho+Entrecard Bandwagon?

I’ve jumped on with both feet. (I’m reserving the right to jump off again if need be.)

Like the idea of Digg. Just haven’t had time yet to implement it.

I know what you mean about Cocomment. I loved the idea, but found it rather clunky. I just disabled it this week.

Gotta love Entrecard! I had registered with SezWho a few weeks ago and was thrilled to see the new partnership notice. I’m on Digg too, but haven’t done much with that just yet.. working on it though!

Great blog btw :)

I think the idea was great. I also noticed that Entrecard lately has continually implementing more tools which I think is good to the whole community.
I already added the widget of SezWho and found very interesting.

I did jump on the bandwagon, all without breaking anything.

I think people are focusing too much on the whole “rating” of the comments, I can’t tell you how many sites I have had to stop and explain that you don’t HAVE to rate comments.

Anyway, hopefully this will work well for us ECers. I predict a lot of the paranoid people removing SezWho within the next week.

I’m using SezWho and Entrecard Reg. hehe.. As for digg, have you signed up for Feedburner? They have this nice feature I put at the bottom of each of my posts that include the digg button there and it doesn’t clutter so much space.

Although I’ve moved my Entrecard down on the blog and even stopped taking ads for a few days, I’ve reactivated the ads BUT I’m waiting to see how SezWho pans out before implementing. I know we have a lot of non-Entrecarders and I don’t want to scare people off!

@Haley - Am still waiting on feedback from the SezWho team. Still have faith though. Digg… Iunno… Yes, CoComment was clunky and clumsy! LOL

@Dianne - Welcome! I think the lack of follow through with Digg is what prompted Graham to hold the contest for SezWho. And thanks :) You have a very nice blog as well!

@Eric - Welcome! I see you’re one of the many lucky ones who were able to install without any problems!

@ Monique - lol true, but I thought that if your comments are rated higher you get more points? Though I’m not sure I skimmed over that post… shhh don’t tell Graham. I’ll read it over again when I am able to install the plugin. Yeah, I think you’re right about the paranoid people… there’s a lot of buzz about privacy on the EC forums.

@Chris - I have signed up for feedburner but uh… I’m a bit of a virgin with the service. Can’t say I’ve even looked at how to use it. *hides in shame*

@Erica - hehe you see, I don’t think I get traffic from anywhere but EC (though I really should check up on that) so I do really like this idea. Speaking of ads on fiveblondes… (goes to your EC profile page).

Reggie

Click your Feed.
Go to Optimize.
Scroll down to Feedflare.
Set it up from there.

The coding goes anywhere in your loop. I put it after each post.

Good Luck! :)

I guess I will be the voice of dissent when I say that I have zero interest in SexWho as far as adding it to my blog.

I find the idea of rewarding someone to comment much like the comment rush idea: it is basically a forced comment. If someone wants to comment on my site, let them have something constructive to say, instead of worrying about picking up a few credits.

Just the way I see it…some people may like it, but I’m not one of them.

I jumped OUT of CoComment, EC, and SezWho, a long time ago! :-)

Nothing ever sticks on the internet.

I like CoComment. I’m sticking with that. I don’t care for SezWho much at all. I will soon run out of patience with it and toss it. I really only put it up for EC bloggers who want to try out the system.

@Trench - I activated FeedFlare but seem to be having trouble inserting it into the place. Will have to do a bit more reading on it. Thanks for the help :)

@Chris - And that’s ok of course. I’m sure it would be different if I were talking about a subject that not many people know (as much as you do) about… I mean I visit your site every day but I don’t make a comment because I don’t always have something of value to say but when I do I will. I know SezWho won’t change the way I go about commenting but I agree with you that there will be plenty of people who will. I guess, I don’t mind so much because, as I said.. I talk about anything and everything. hehe Welcome btw :)

@Rudy - I know… I still have you grouped with my ‘daily EC visits’ on my bookmarks and I still forget that you don’t have the widget anymore LOL

@Laura - lol it’s been giving everyone a lot of problems. I wish they had done more testing before they made the annoucement.

I jumped on the sezWho bandwagon but then jumped back off. Entrecard has been great for interacting with new blogs and making friends and luckily I’ve gotten a bunch of great comments.

SezWho seems kinda forced and I think the rate of “Great post” kinda comments will go up because credits are now linked to comments.

The one real problem I have with SezWho is that it shows the comments of those not registered into the SezWho program and when I opted out it still shows everyone my comments. I don’t think people not into SezWho will like this much.

I think blogs like yours Fragile Will do well no matter if you used Sezwho or not, simply because you have things to say and you do so in an interesting and engaging way to your readers.

Nope, I don’t like its rating system. I don’t blog to win approval of others.

Michael wrote on July 17, 2008 - 4:32 pm

YOU can remove the ratings on all the comments btw. You can use it simply to see where others have visited during the day or what activity the author has made. Its all in the options.

I’m with Erica. Haven’t installed it. (Sez Who)

@Michael - I think it’s kinda cool being able to see where other people have commented, albeit a bit stalkerish… but then again so is facebook. LOL And as Trench said, you can turn off the ratings and customize it to your own liking. Neat huh?

@Trench - Man, I wish they’d hurry up and get this update out so I can install it. hehe

@Beamer - Any particular reason?

@Trench - awh boo… (2.1.2) I have that one already. They’re still working on a further update.

I jumped in and so far the water has been enjoyable and I am happy with what I see. It has taken a bit to understand the Sezwho component, but I think it will be a good marriage for the two sites.
